No TX in A3J
No TX in A3H
20 W in A1 !!!!!!!

A = 72.165; B = 17.100; C = 55.065; D = 9349.6; E = 650.4 con qualche incertezza sull'ultima cifra.

Re: IRET PRC247-B
Hi.
I already have read the whole 21 pages many many times and this helped me to repair one synthesizer FS4 that had a shorted tandalum capacitor so one radio is working.
I still have 2 more FS4 units ( i also have a third PRC247 as a parts donor) that exhibit the same behaviour, all voltages are fine but pins 3,4 and 5 are not 0 indicating that the are not locked.
Monday i will start working on them so any help is welcomed (i have already saw the message about replacing the CAN 8 operational amplifier but i am thinking that if all 3 VCO are unlocked there must be something common to all of them.
Maybe i will use the venerable 741 opamp instead or the same as the original but in dip8 form in a base so i can change it easily if it fails again..

Hi Chris wellcome in the group. As you seen I am also a PRC247 owner and will be glad to share experieces on this set. I am on holiday and be back at home nxt wk. You already repaired one set, let un problem and solution

Re: IRET PRC247-B
Here is one i have in my phone, Monday i will post more.
I replaced the tandalum capacitor with an electrolytic mounted outside of the oscillator can.
In any case i think that PRC247 is not a very reliable radio because of the synthesizer so corrective measures have to be taken along the repair route like IC heat sinks, capacitor change even ic sockets if possible.

Re: IRET PRC247-B
Today i tested one synthesizer and it works fine so i took some measurements looking for the frequencies listed in post 41607.
I found them all but in the damaged FS4 unit i have (2 of them) the VCO 0-3 does not change it's frequency enough to lock.
The varicap voltage in the good FS4 unit and for the same frequency of 20 Mhz is 15,5v where in the damaged one the voltage is only 3,4 v and it only goes from 2,9 to 3,5v although it's swing should be about 28 volts since the opamp 776 gets 28 volts at his supply pin.
Looking at the 776 specification i see that the maximum V supply is 32 volts and that's the reason it get's damaged i think.
I am not sure that it is damaged but i can't find anything else wrong.
I think i will replace it with a 741, the 776 opamp looks too sensitive for my taste.
Now i am waiting for the replacement parts.
Here are some more photos.

Re: IRET PRC247-B
Well it is not the 776 opamp or the 74L04 because the varicap voltage of VCO 0-3 stays at 3,5v so the search continues.
