Re: TCS 12 Collins
I had a good morning with the TCS station. I checked into the Old Mil Radio Net early this morning and received signal reports from as faraway as Florida which for AM is a long ways away for me. I listened on the TCS13 so it was a total TCS morning. It is nice to have the old setup operational.

Hi Don congratulations, it is always a particular pleasure meet stations using historical sets. May we have frequencies used from Old Mil Radio Net ? We can try to lissen and test QSO possibility

Sure, Every Saturday morning beginning at 5 AM EST. They usually recheck for new check ins at 6 AM as well. Net Control is usually w3pww Ted and he is very good at his job. If you can hear someone well but not net control always say "I will need a relay please" when you give your call. 3837khz

Re: TCS 12 Collins
So should I permanently ground the heater wire for V105 so I run both on AM? What do you folks do? I have been working on the power supply and raised PA HV to almost what my No 19 runs (single 807 which would be identical to a single 1625 except heater voltage of course. ) Power level is now about the same. I hate seeing that extra 1625 sleeping. I have to clean the roller inductor today so it would be a good time to to it. To raise the voltage , the PSU I had was choke input filter. I added a Cap in front of it changing to Cap input filter and got exactly what I wanted for voltage under load. Lots but well in the safe zone. I know from working with the No 19 how much these tubes respond to HV . Even the difference between 370v and 450v is huge as to output. I suppose some will think this bad. However there is no real reason why it should be a problem as voltage is well with in the tubes design specs. My ARC5s I run as high as 770v but net is about 550v on AM. (They are also a pair of 1625s)
I added a simple Aux hb BFO to the rx as well and can now copy SSB with ease. CW is also much better.

Re: TCS 12 Collins
Hi Don, TNX for Mil Net info but for us any possibility for two main reasons : 1) In 80 m band we can operate up to 3800 kHz, 2) 5 AM EST for us are 10 AM UTC or 11 AM CET (Central European Time) when the 80 are pratically closed. Should be interesting to know if the Net use some channel on 20, 15 or 10 meter bands where I guess the possibility are higher.
Congrats for your work on the TCS assembly. Mario ik0moz

OK, thanks.
re 80M several of us, the same people, often operate AM early mornings on 3705. Before 9 AM EST. Usually between 8 and 9AM
Listen for KA2J.

Re: TCS 12 Collins
Speriamo
